learndirect: Soft skills mobile apps
Summary
Ufi learndirect, the UK online learning provider, wished to develop its first suite of mobile applications as part of its commercial offer. The ‘Fit for the Job’ application comprises ten, fifteen minute standalone apps accessible via Apple and Android devices. Hosted by comedian Mathew Horne, the apps are geared around furthering job skills and improving job prospects by focusing on five key areas: assertiveness, sales, interview skills, presentation skills and time management. Each app includes a range of features to help learn new skills including; video clips featuring famous faces such as Dawn French, James Nesbitt and Kris Marshall to illustrate key points; interactive multiple choice questions to test what you have learnt, and links to extra resources to help develop your skills further. You can access the Apple version by selecting the link to the left of this area.

Bausch+Lomb Mobile
Summary
The leading global eye care company, Bausch+Lomb, engaged us to develop their first commercial Apple iPhone application. The ‘Toric Calculator’ is a free application for eye care practitioners, to assist with the fitting and recommendation of contact lens. Using the intuitive touch screen functionality of the iPhone or iTouch, users can rotate a dial to perform a range of calculations on spectacle and contact lens values. Practitioners can then fine tune their calculations by rotating a transparent contact lens over a virtual eye. Markings on the eye enable them to line up the lens and ensure the fittings are correct. We managed the entire process for Bausch+Lomb, from establishing their global iTunes store, design, development and testing of the application through to final upload and deployment. The application was approved within 2 days of submission, which we are told was quite an achievement for an application of its technical complexity!

Learning and Teaching Scotland: Glow Futures Apps
Summary
The Scottish Government body Learning and Teaching Scotland (LTS) engaged us to create a mobile solution for ‘Glow Futures’. Glow is the Scottish schools national intranet which is currently undergoing a public consultation as to the future of the service. To assist with this consultation LTS commissioned both a simple public facing website (http://glowfutur.es/) and a supporting mobile application for Apple and Android devices. The mobile application extends the social engagement capability of the website and allows the Glow Futures project team to communicate and hold dialogue with the Scottish education community. It features blogs, comments, the ability to publish articles, deliver multimedia and to rate and share content. The biggest challenge for the Tinopolis team was in implementing a single sign-on solution (SSO). We were proud to be one of the first mobile developers to successfully integrate the SSO solution Shibboleth.

Cambridge 800 Podcasts
Summary
To commemorate the 800th anniversary of Cambridge University, we produced 2 multimedia podcasts (1 video, 1 audio) which were delivered via the Cambridge 800 website. Given only 10 days to turn around both projects, we succeeded in producing 2 high quality podcasts; the video covered the opening ceremony, a spectacular light show by world renowned artist Ross Ashton. The audio podcast provides an insightful perspective on topical headlines; exploring what history, anthropology and even hormones can teach us about the credit crunch.
