New commercial iPhone app ‘The Toric Calculator’ has been developed by Tinopolis to help with the measurement and fitting of contact lenses in the optometry industry.
Commissioned by Bausch & Lomb, the app is free to use by all eye care practitioners. Using the intuitive touch screen functionality of the iPhone or iTouch, users can rotate a dial to perform a range of calculations on spectacle and contact lens values.
Practitioners can then fine tune their calculations by rotating a transparent contact lens over a virtual eye. Markings on the eye enable them to line up the lens and ensure the fittings are correct. Once complete the application links directly to the Bausch and Lomb product database where an order for the correct lens can be placed.
Tinopolis has managed the entire process for Bausch and Lomb, from establishing their global iTunes store, design, development and testing of the application through to final upload and deployment.
A Flash version of the application has also been developed for delivery via the new Bausch and Lomb, Academy of Vision Care website. This will cater for practitioners without iPhone or iTouch access.
